Kammok Firebelly 30°F Trail Quilt

The Kammok Firebelly 30ºF down backpacking quilt is designed for the cold-weather, active adventurer. This newest version is designed to adapt to any environment as a minimalist sleeping bag, top quilt, hammock underquilt, or your go-to insulator for travel. With the new buttery-soft Atmos X™ fabric and responsibly sourced DownTek fill, the Firebelly brings comfort wherever you roam.

Features

DownTek™ insulation

The Firebelly 30ºF backpacking quilt features Downtek™ responsibly sourced, water-repellent down. The down is treated with PFC-free bluesign® approved chemistry, for water to bead up and roll right off. Downtek™ down absorbs 30% less water and dries 60% faster than untreated down, retaining more loft and keeping you warmer after exposure to moisture.

Comfort in moderate temperatures

Atmos X™ 15D nylon ripstop is stronger, lighter, and more abrasion-resistant fabric, treated with a water-repellent DWR finish. Constructed with Insotect Flow™, the honeycomb structure of insulation, ensures even distribution of warmth, eliminates cold spots, and keeps you toasty. With Insotect Flow, your insulation will stay in place and keep performing trip after trip.

Ultra-versatile

Ready for every adventure, the Firebelly 30ºF can be used as a camp blanket or hammock underquilt. On the ground, ditch a traditional sleeping bag for a lighter alternative by attaching the Firebelly to your pad using the included sleeping pad straps. Create a cozy footbox using the YKK button snaps and shock cord ends.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a trail quilt?

A trail quilt is a quilt that can serve as both a topquilt, minimalist sleeping bag and hammock underquilt on the trail. This trail quilt also affords you the option of creating a footbox or using it as a minimalist backpacking sleeping bag. The Bobcat 45ºF, Bobcat 55ºF, and Firebelly are trail quilts because of their packable construction and versatile use cases.

How can I use my Kammok Firebelly trail quilt when hammock camping?

The Firebelly can function as either a top or underquilt to insulate you while hammock camping in temperatures at or above 30ºF. For those who easily get cold at night, we recommend using an additional top quilt or sleeping bag when using the Firebelly as an underquilt. As a top quilt, the Firebelly has a nifty footbox feature that keeps your feet warm over your sleeping bag for added warmth.

How do I make a footbox with my Firebelly?

This video explains how to use your Firebelly as a minimalist sleeping bag with the footbox feature.

How do I hang my Firebelly as an underquilt?

The previous video explains how to use your Firebelly with your hammock.

How do I loft my Firebelly camp blanket’s down?

When the Firebelly 30ºF is compressed for long periods of time, the down fill can appear flat or displaced when taken out of the bag. After you first receive your Firebelly, give the quilt a good shake and lay it on a flat surface for a day or two to allow the down time to loft. Repeat this after storing your Firebelly for any extended period of time.

How do I clean my Firebelly?

The performance of this fill (heat retention!) is directly tied to the “loftiness” of its down. To help your down products retain their loft, please follow our storage and cleaning instructions. Remember, more loft means more warmth. Lofty gear = happy you.

Keep your Firebelly in the best shape by spot cleaning or hand washing when possible. Hand washing your gear with cold water and Grangers Down Wash + Repel is best for extending its useful life, but it can also be cleaned in a front-load washing machine (do not use a washing machine with an agitator).
Washing machine instructions:

  • If the gear is soiled or stained, use the recommended amount of Grangers Down Wash + Repel. Do not use fabric softener, bleach, or stain removal products.
  • Wash the trail quilt by itself using the gentle, cold water setting.
  • Hang to dry, or use the delicate, no heat, tumble setting on your dryer with a clean tennis ball, or dryer ball. Do not stuff back in stuff sack damp or wet.

How do I store my Firebelly?

Where your Firebelly sleeps when you’re not using it affects its lifespan. Before storing after a camping trip, avoid gnarly smells and damaged fill by making sure your gear is completely dry. Then, store lightly stuffed in our cotton storage bag (included) or hang in a dry location. This keeps your down gear fluffy when stored for extended periods of time.

Warmer than I thought it would be. I recommend this product.
I bought this as a lightweight option when camping. I spent several nights in temps from 40F to 28F and was warm. Honestly I was surprised.

Luxurious Trail Comfort. I recommend this product.
Love this quilt only had the opportunity to use once in low 40’s. More than enough warmth…Packs down really small…does everything I want and more from a 30 degree quilt. I’m 6′ 180 and it is PLENTY long and wide for me. Works great with pad. I have not used as an underquilt yet. That is probably next trip. What else is there to say…this is a really good product. I would love to see you guy’s make a 10 degree with Zipper footbox.

    Everyone should have one!
Everyone should have one of these! We have used it constantly, camping and hiking. It’s great for winter hikes to snuggle up at the top of a mountain and watch the sunrise. It’s extremely warm and I can easily wrap it around myself and a few of my children. The snaps can be used in so many different ways. Packs down small, material is soft and resists dirt, and the loft is wonderful. Highly recommend!!

Love this quilt, i have been wanting it for awhile and it was well worth the purchase. I have not got it out on trip yet due to the quarantine of 2020 but using it around the house and laying outside in the hammock has been great. 100% recommend it.

Light weight and very insulating. Light weight and very insulating
Excellent light weight down quilt. Super light weight, packable, lofty, very insulting & warm. Great piece of gear. I just got the Mountain Blanket and the Mesa Mat as well, recommend the blankets for a bulletproof, heavy use, day to day option because the down filled quilts aren’t as hearty, for example ground use, pets, & vehicle. Overall a great and very warm quilt. I live and camp in Northern California & know that I will be very comfortable in any condition in my Kammok and with this awesome gear.

    Buy it!
Super light-weight, super warm. I use it even on my bed at night. Great product.

    Firebelly Goodness!
I have other quilts from various other companies. I love them all just like my children. However each one has its own share of likes/dislikes. Some are better suited for different conditions or have issues. The Firebelly is like the the favorite child. I cannot find a flaw in this quilt. It feels amazing the first time you unleash it from its bag. The soft fabric feels amazing close to the skin, it doesn’t cling or stick to your skin. It’s super warm and just the perfect size for a hammock or a snuggle session on the couch. It’s roomy enough for two adults to share or two small kids and myself (They love to steal it and rollup like baby burritos, who can blame them?). Plenty of options to attach to a pad or connect to a hammock. All the integration Kammok put into this is truly appreciated with each use. It’s become the go to, the favorite to camp under and is truly the star child. It feels durable and well made. If your on the fence, get off… (Didn’t your parents tell you to stop climbing fences?) You won’t regret it.

    Best hammock underquilt
The buttons to keep it wrapped around the hammock is perfect. Great feature and very warm.

  9. Donchart

    So warm!!
Bought this before it was modified into the new version. I wonder , is there a stuff sac that one can purchase separately??

  10. Mamsa

    Awesome Quilt
This is a terrific quilt. Ultralight and well made. I spend 8 days in the Quetico with it and was very impressed.

    Always great products
Product has a great feel, can’t wait to get it out on the trail

  12. The Gingerbearded Beauty

A lighter option than an insulated mat
I purchased this for some chilly weather hammock camping. I prefer it over the hammock insulated mat because of how much lighter it is. I used it along with a sleeping bag and was comfortable in ~40 degree weather.
